Cologne is one of the largest and most popular cities in Germany. The Cathedral, the Rhine, the museums and numerous events attract almost 115 million visitors every year. Most of them are greatly impressed by the "savoir vivre", the residents always like to radiate.
Rhein Panorama DawnLocated in the heart of Europe, Cologne is easily accessible on land, water or by airplane. Within 50 minutes, Frankfurt Airport can be reached by ICE high speed trains. The Cologne Bonn Airport is the largest low-cost hub in Continental Europe, with 9,7 million passengers and more than 130 destinations in 2009.

Cologne is also starting point for a wide range of boat tours along the romantic Rhine, offered for example by Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG.
Cologne is a center for conventions, conferences, incentives and trade fairs: The Koelnmesse events programme covers more than 60 trade fairs and exhibitions as well as 2.000 congresses per year.

 

Declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, the Cologne Cathedral is Germany's number one attraction with more than 6 million visitors annually. It houses the golden shrine of the Three Magi and other precious reliquaries.
From here almost all sites worth seeing can be reached by foot. These include the twelve Romanesque churches, truly outstanding examples of medieval church architecture and museums of worldwide importance, such as the Museum Ludwig and the Roman-Germanic Museum. Cologne's "sweetest" museum variant is the Chocolate Museum. Besides the 36 museums, over 120 different galleries display a wide range of art.

Throughout the year, Cologne offers its visitors a calendar filled with events. The world famous Cologne Carnival has its climax in February. In July, the Cologne Lights will be illuminating the nocturnal sky above the Rhine with a music-synchronous firework. In December seven idyllic Christmas markets herald the Advent period in Cologne.

Music lovers are spoilt with musical highlights in the Philharmonie, the Cologne Opera and the Musical Dome all year round. World stars regularly fill the modern LANXESS arena which has a capacity for around 18,000 people.
Cologne's shopping streets, malls and arcades invite visitors to shop and take a break in the cosy cafés. Cologne's Schildergasse and Hohe Straße are among Germany's number one shopping streets with over 17,000 passers-by per hour. The Old Town and the picturesque Rhine promenade are sprawling with typical colourful gable houses.
