Bromeliads

Bromeliads are fascinating plants only abundant in South America. Some representatives of the family have edible fruit, e.g. the well-known pineapple. More than half of the family is growing as epiphytes. They don’t have roots and sit on trees, cliffs or other plants. With their trichomes they collect water in which more than 250 species of animals can find habitat.

Bromeliads are very popular as indoor plants.
