The Toko Toucan is the largest species of the family of Toucans. It prefers edges of forest, plantations and fruit gardens. It mostly forages in the canopy but sometimes comes to the ground to look for small animals or fallen fruit.

On the ground the bird is hopping. Nesting is in holes of trees or palm trees, sometimes also in cliffs or termite hills. Nestlings hatch naked and with closed eyes. They leave the nest after two months.
