The Soursop is an evergreen tree with leaves similar to laurel. With a growing height of 8 – 12 meters it forms part of the lower tree layer. The crown only has few branches.
The yellow-greenish flowers smell of carrion and so attract flies for pollination. The fruit are prickly, up to 40 cm long, with a weight of 4 kg. The flavor of the juicy, yellow-white pulp is similar to the close related cherimoya. The sour juice of the fruit is used for refreshing drinks, ice cream and marmalade.
